The whole ethos of St Basils is around inclusion of young people who are at risk, vulnerable and may be facing homelessness.

Our Audit Commission inspection identified resident involvement as a strength at St Basils, since then we have appointed the St Basils Youth Advisory Board (YAB):

St Basils resident, Trevor Birch, said, “It is a good idea to have the Youth Advisory Board and brilliant to get young people involved. We are letting other people know what we think and feel. We are being listened to and heard. I am getting some good experience such as being on the Diversity Group and ensuring that our YAB also reflects diversity.”

Lisa Savage, another resident, said, “I think its good that young people can have their concerns and problems listened to. We are a very diverse group… a part of the whole. We make real decisions, such as our ‘Cookridge’ grant making scheme. We worked on budgets and estimates.

"I have learnt to express myself in a group and am gaining leadership skills. I am gaining confidence that I can make the right judgement and that my opinion is important.”
