East Thames Housing Group’s Community Champions are building their skills and helping their neighbourhoods.
We want to make a positive and lasting difference to the neighbourhoods where we work.
Our wide-ranging and expanding social responsibility programme empowers local people. It helps them find employment, engage in education and training or play an active role in the community.
We have started to train and encourage Community Champions; people who can improve their skills and develop the confidence to become more effectively involved in local community activities.
Arunkumar Soundaramourty (Arun) took part in the Community Champion Volunteers programme which helped him secure employment.
“Taking part in this programme is probably one of the best things I’ve done,” he said. “It has helped me to get a good job and provided me with a lot of training which has boosted my confidence. I’m really grateful for the support I received. Even after the programme officially ended the staff were still supporting us. Thanks to that I’m now working and enjoying my job.”
