Connect Housing has helped transform unused land into a safe space for Leeds' children to play.
Connect Housing has worked with Leeds City Council and Groundwork Leeds to transform an unused piece of land into a safe play space for children in the heart of inner city Leeds. It is part of a wider programme to bring stability and sustainability to the community. Working together, Connect, Chevin and Unity Housing Associations have turned over 50 properties into large energy efficient family homes. At the same time, over 120 small flats, for which there was very low demand, were removed to rebalance the housing mix in the neighbourhood. The new homes have high levels of insulation, efficient boilers and solar hot water. Their energy rating is in excess of new-build standards - remarkable for large Victorian terraced properties. Ten of the new homes back onto a small triangle of land which been blighted by vandalism and fly-tipping. Connect and its partners transformed the area into a safe play space for local children. The project was designed by local people working with Groundwork staff, and they will also be involved in finishing off the scheme with planting.
