A neighbourhood once living in fear, has had calm and normal living restored, thanks to the swift action of Camilla Boss, Housing Officer at Friendship Care and Housing.
Camilla was made aware of escalating anti-social behaviour by a household in one of our Leicester neighbourhoods. She worked with the police, environmental health, an anti-social behaviour co-ordinator and North West Leicestershire Council to serve a legal warning, but it was sadly ignored.
Their behaviour deteriorated further when they sent a disabled neighbour abusive text messages and posted aggressive death threats on ‘Facebook’.
Fearing the victim was in imminent danger, Camilla knew that she had to present a solid case in court, and would need witness statements. So with her colleague Margaret Bland, a Friendship Support Worker, they met with tenants in the affected neighbourhood
Camilla said “We explained the action that Friendship wanted to take and the importance of witness statements. But not surprisingly, residents were frightened and reluctant to speak. However, with persistence, we took three statements.”
With such solid evidence, the Judge ordered an injunction which included immediate powers of arrest for any further anti-social behaviour.
Camilla added “Thankfully this had the desired affect. It’s great visiting this neighbourhood now: people are out and about washing their cars, chatting with friends and neighbours and they’re smiling again!”
Camilla is currently working towards an NVQ level 3 in Housing. Ironically one of her assignments involves ‘Breaches in Tenancy’. No guessing where her material will come from!
