Pedal power raises cash

Les Wood, a Neighbourhood Officer at Wherry Housing Association, use pedal power to raise almost £1,000 for local children.

Les Wood, a Neighbourhood Officer at Wherry Housing Association, was so determined to provide activities for youngsters in his patch during the school holidays that he completed a sponsored cycle ride, from Ravenglass to South Shields along Hadrian’s Wall – and raised almost £1,000.

Thanks to Les’s efforts, children living in our estate in Terrington, King’s Lynn have been enjoying a host of summer holiday activities

Les, who has been a keen cyclist for many years, got on his bike at Ravenglass, Cumbria and did the 174-mile trek to South Shields, Tyne and Wear over three days.

And he thoroughly enjoyed the challenge, despite suffering from sunburn and blisters!

“I’m delighted that so many people supported me and were happy to sponsor me” says Les. “All the money raised has been used to pay for summer activities, which included sporting activities and art-based projects, and any left over will go into the pot to use for future projects for children living in Wherry Housing Association homes in the area.”

“There aren’t many facilities in the area for children and we wanted to give the youngsters something positive to do rather than hanging around the car park” adds Les.
