Green-fingered tenants

Green-fingered tenants are celebrating after finishing the transformation of grassy areas outside their flats into a communal garden for local residents to enjoy.

The Wirral Partnership Homes’ tenants, who are part of the Fender Heights Tenants Association, decided to give the grassy area near to their flats a makeover.  Wirral Partnership Homes donated £1000 towards the project, which was also supported by the local council and businesses.

The team spent their donations on a variety of gardening equipment including wheelbarrows, forks, spades and compost as well as various plants, trees, flowers and benches.

They plan to maintain the gardens all year round and are encouraging others in the area to buy flowers and plant them if they wish.

Chair of the Tenants Association, Gill Harding, said: “Obviously living in high-rise we don’t have gardens ourselves, but we still have a love for beautiful flowers and being able to sit outside. We hope that this garden will improve the environment and encourage people to keep the area clean and tidy.”

Brian Simpson, chief executive of Wirral Partnership Homes said: “It is extremely encouraging to see all the hard work the group has put into regenerating the area surrounding the flats, it has helped to improve the appearance of the area and will provide a place for tenants and their families to enjoy.”
