Money matters in Tameside

New Charter Housing Trust's support for Money Information Network Tameside (MiNT) is tackling financial exclusion in Tameside.

Tameside faces a wide spectrum of financial inclusion problems. Believing that many hands make light work, New Charter Housing Trust brought together a range of partners to tackle them.

Money Information Network Tameside (MiNT) brings together Age Concern; Ashton Pioneer Homes; Citizens Advice Bureau; Manchester & District Housing Association; New Charter; Sanctuary Housing; Tame Valley Partnership; Tameside Credit Union; Tameside Metropolitan Borough Council; Tameside Education Department and West Pennine Housing Association.

MiNT offers a range of services, including helping people to get advice and assistance, improving understanding of financial issues, offering access to financial products, providing people with the skills and training to make informed choices.

New Charter will fund a Financial Inclusion Team for five years, at a cost of £230,000, to take MiNT's work even further.

In the future, we see financial literacy work in schools as a long-term strategy in tackling financial inclusion. Young people need to be taught how to budget so they don't face the same issues as current generations.
