Moat comes to aid of local firefighter

Ryan, a firefighter, has purchased his first home thanks to Moat and the Open Market HomeBuy scheme.

Ryan, a firefighter, and his partner Alison have purchased their first home thanks to Moat and the Open Market HomeBuy scheme.

Ryan works for the Essex County Fire and Rescue Service and Alison is an Assistant Youth Offending Team Practitioner for Essex County Council.

For five years, Ryan lived in a small home owned by his mum. Alison moved in early last year and, shortly after, they decided to buy a home of their own.

Ryan learned about Open Market HomeBuy through work. The couple was thrilled to learn that they qualified for assistance from Moat.  House prices in the area are so high that they would not have been able to afford a flat, let alone a house.

The couple purchased 75 per cent of a terraced house in Corringham, Thurrock. The remaining 25 per cent is funded in two parts – half by Nationwide and half by Moat.

Ryan and Alison are happy they can remain in the area. They both have only a short commute to work and their friends and family are close by.

Ryan says; “Thank you to Moat for making this possible for us. If not for the scheme we would have had to continue saving and remain renting. This opportunity has given us the chance to live our lives as we want to and not by anyone else’s rules. We couldn’t be happier!”
