Young Hyde residents bring Twelve Days of Christmas to Lambeth

16 December 2009

Over one hundred young Lambeth residents will be taking to the streets this festive season to take part in 12 special Christmas events with the aim of bringing cheer and magic to the local community.

Organised by Young People Matter and supported by The Hyde Group, the Twelve Days of Christmas programme will see 101 young people participating in a vast array of activities and events beneficial to their local area, including delivering food parcels to the homeless, decorating a residential home and reading to children at Great Ormond Street Hospital.

The emphasis behind the initiative is to encourage young people to take part in events that give back to their communities in a positive way, keeping with goodwill associated with the season.  The twelve days will culminate with a special showcase, set to be attended by Lambeth Councillor for Children and Young People, Paul McGlone and Chief Executive of Lambeth Council, Derrick Anderson, highlighting the good work that has taken place over the period.

Hyde Southbank Homes Regeneration Manager, Sharon Sealey said: 'The Christmas season provides a great opportunity for young people to show just how much their local community means to them.  Hyde Plus is thrilled to be working with Young People Matter in supporting our younger residents to do something positive for their local area.'
